Personal:

I am a 37 year old Male.  I have been married now for over 15 years.  I have three kids, all boys.  My boys ages are 14, 11 and 7.  I have always enjoyed running and my wife is slowly being converted.   While I was going through college I didn't do much running so I am having to teach my leg how to run fast again.

My time today was 20:57.  I was hoping to run a little faster but it is 19 seconds faster than I ran 3 years ago.   I started out, warming up running two miles.  A mile up the first part of the course and back.

I don't know what to say about the race 5Ks hurt so much.  The first mile of the course is tough and then the second mile is worst.  I think I did a pretty good job of pacing, because my place didn't change much after the first mile.  Today was pretty cold the hardest part was the slick corners.  Turning into the Dee Event Center I had to walk to keep from falling on my can.  When I made the last turn and see the clock I see 20 I push as hard as I can to make sure I break 21 minutes.

Splits

6:43, 7:15, 6:20, 0:41.22 for the last 0.11 a 6:03

Split from 2010

6:32, 7:31, 6:37 and 37 seconds for the last .1 miles

After the race, AngieB congratulated me and I asked if she was planning on doing some more running.  AngieB was planning on running with a few friends.  They were nice enough to let me come along.  We ran another 4.8 miles.

Nice start to the year Matt. That course is painful.

Nice job on a tough course, Matt.

Thanks, Cody and Jon.

I always fear 5Ks, but they hurt so much. Striders 5K puts a new meaning to hurting after a race.
