Personal:

I am a 37 year old Male.  I have been married now for over 15 years.  I have three kids, all boys.  My boys ages are 14, 11 and 7.  I have always enjoyed running and my wife is slowly being converted.   While I was going through college I didn't do much running so I am having to teach my leg how to run fast again.

This is a tough race and I am not sure what to think of this race.  My time is 9 seconds slower than I ran 3 years ago.  I feel like I am in better shape but today when it came time to power up the hill I didn't have it today.  After the race I was planning on doing some extra miles, I just couldn't get myself to do it.  The first part of the day I ran two mile warm up with AngieB and friends, the 8 minute miles felt hard.  During the race the pace felt OK and I tried to take advantage of the down hills.  The mile long hill chewed me up and spit me out I lost about 6 positions.

Splits

6:28, 5:58, 6:42, 6:52, 8:08, 8:12, 1:22 for the last .2 a 5:54 average.

2010 splits

6:27, 6:00, 6:44, 7:06, 8:06, 8:00, 1:10 for the last .2

Nice job Matt. It's a tough course, I wouldn't worry too much about being 9 seconds slower. Just think of it as a great workout.

Angie and Riley thanks. I know I shouldn't be depressed over nine seconds. I have been thinking I am in better shape and training harder.

9 seconds could easily be explained by a mental lapse. That hill is brutal, and you really have to be on top of things to push all the way up. I bet your fitness is as good or better, despite this benchmark. It's just one data point. Your 5k was better, right?

Oh that course. The Ten miler is even better, not! Ha, that last comment brings me back to Jr. High, NOT!! Well anyway, good job and no worries about 9 secs!
